I've been highlighting some of the changes that the Scouting has gone through in it's 97 years in the United States. There are some things that were so fundamental about Baden Powell's vision that they exists today with only minor adjustements made to accomodate Scouting's growth. The Scout Oath was a promise that a young man would need to make before becoming a Scout. He made a promise to serve his country and religion, to serve the people around him, and to serve Scouting by following the Scout Law.
A very good friend of mine has started his cycling trip around the perimeter of the U.S. He started in Long Island, NY and is going to be moving clockwise with the seasons. Matt was a former scout in the Prince George's county area. I met him while in college and we worked together for a few years after college. He's been updating his website almost daily and posting stories about his adventures and pictures from the places he's been.
His website is http://www.pushingsilver.com. I've also compiled a map of the places he's been so far http://www.shawnsplaces.net/trackmatt/.
He started his trip the first week in July and really has no finish date, it takes him as long as it takes him.
From his site: "The whole point of this website is to document a solo journey around the perimeter of the United States via bicycle. The route is not preplanned. No support car will be following. No outside sponsorship has been sought."
